Summary
Mihawk meets the red-haired boy in his dreams when he is fifteen. The edges of the hallway they meet in are wispy, but the boy appears clear, his hair almost too vivid in contrast. Then again, this is a dream.
“Hawkeyes Mihawk!” the boy exclaims, a little too loudly. Then he smacks his face with both his hands. “Oh my god, I am so lame,” he mutters. “It won’t go like this in person. I’ll be cool. This can be practice.”
Mihawk wakes up before he can find out what the boy means, but doesn’t think anything of it as he gets out of bed to make himself breakfast—weird dreams happen all the time for no reason, after all.
It’s only when he sees the same exact boy again a week later that Mihawk begins to take note.

Shanks' eyes flick back to Mihawk's, lips parting. But for a moment, he hesitates. Then he shakes his head, his hair flicking into his eyes. Through the veil of red Mihawk can see that they've taken on the shine of confusion. Confusion?
"I don't remember."
While trying to navigate his relationship with Shanks after the loss of his arm, Mihawk is thrown years into the past by the power of a mysterious devil fruit, and rekindles his relationship with Shanks' younger self while trying to get back to the present.
