Summary
"Gongja," the director says.
He watches Gongja stiffen. He scrambles closer, eyes bright and nervous. There's a flushed look to him, like he's just run a great distance. If Gongja were a child, the director would touch his shoulder. Tell him to calm himself.
But Gongja has grown, and the director cannot do that anymore.

Raviel has no problem staking her claim in public, so the long-suffering guild leaders will just have to deal with that.

Summary
Jinsung cinches his sleeve under a thumb and his other holds the base of Hyungseok’s palm, pad against bone and the thin swell of a pulse. Jinsung coils close on the chance that Hyungseok tries to squirm but he doesn’t, just folds and lets Jinsung contain him.
This dumbass. From his wrist-up his skin is knotted with dark bruises.
“Seriously,” Jinsung hisses.
[The weight of Gun’s favor is heavy, after all.]

Summary
"Corpse?" asked Usopp, once Chopper: with one last thump to the back, successfully stopped his gagging noises. A new lump of wet meat was on the table and Luffy eyed it, wondering if Usopp would fight him for it.
"Luffy snatched up his hat," Zoro said. "The corpse's."
"It wasn't his!" Luffy snapped. His hand was slapped away by Usopp, who garbled out something like have some dignity please oh my god. Luffy glared but slunk back. "It used to be someone else's but whoever it was wasn't there anymore."
"Because he was dead," said Zoro.
A few days later, a revolutionary sends out a couple hundred death threats to 'Strawhat Luffy.'

Summary
The Strawhats backtrack three years. It seems their captain hasn't.
But the Strawhats aren't the only ones who remember an old life, and Luffy isn't the only one who's forgotten. Ace tries his hand at bodyguarding and kidnapping simultaneously. Sabo has several grievances about the latter-- and a lot to learn about himself.
(Not all people have the chance to live twice. But there are always those things you can learn twice regardless: things you might've robbed from yourself, before. No matter where you are, what you've found yourself becoming. The end doesn't need to be anywhere but where you want it to be.)

Summary
The man he picks up to be his manager is named Kim Gongja. He's meek. He obeys but he complains. That's the way of people like him: no talent, no luck, no skill. Gongja is someone who tripped in the crowd, too slow for a walk, no worth in a world that can only move forward.

Summary
The rumor starts from an honest looking fellow who frequents the guard post at the tenth floor gate.
"See," he had said, to a quiet crowd, with an earnest sort of compunction. "Kim Gongja told me he went to the tenth floor to die."

Summary
"You died," Viper says. He hurls a grain ball at Gongja's face and it crumbles against his cheek. "In my dream. It was nasty. Lots of blood. Gross as hell. Why?"
Rubbing at the wasted scraps of thousand-year-old grain, Gongja mutters, "I feel like I didn't need to know that."
"I had a dream about you too," the Apothecary volunteers shyly, glancing up from where she's been holding the snarling monk corpse's head down by the forehead.
Gongja turns to her. "Was it as violating as his?"
Violating, Viper mouths.

There was something wrong with Subedar, yes, but there was something worse in Norton. Because he itched to know what it was. Because wanting for someone else's sorriness was a sick sort of hunger.

Summary
"Shit!" Zoro snarls, and Nami is so cold, she's so cold and Zoro is moving like he's burning, "That's his brother!"
It happens fast. Luffy is by her side and then he isn't, the chains are shredded in his fist. His other hand is red and wet at the knuckles.
"Sabo," he says, hoarse. It wrecks his face, leaves him raw like his eyes are an honest wound.
The World Noble hits the ground, dead.
(When Luffy finds Sabo again, there is a collar around his brother's neck.)

Summary
Zoro has no goddamn clue where his crew has wandered off to. They've picked the worst time to go missing, too: right when strange news hits the streets, detailing the incarceration of Monkey D. Luffy.
Turns out it isn't libel.
But trying to break his idiot captain out of prison proves to be more difficult than expected. For some reason, all these marine brownnosers are praising him for having gotten Luffy thrown in there in the first place.

Summary
"I hear that your captain lets you do whatever," the stranger says. "So, won't you let me join the crew?"
He's grinning, now, as if he's found a loophole. As if Usopp is enough of a pushover to concede to someone who talks about Luffy like he's easy.
"He doesn't need you," says Usopp, chest tight.

Summary
Luffy goes back again, and again, and again.
There's little changes, little things that happen, little things that don't, but the important part is that he has his crew alongside him the entire time, right?
It would be, if his crew were beside him.

Summary
There's something different about Luffy on nights like this, nights where there's soft rain and half-moons, and when the streets are quiet; no cars or trucks, only midnight joggers or early risers taking walks to the beach.
(Where Luffy and his friends have a relationship Sabo doesn't think he'll ever be able to understand.) -

Summary
There's a messy scrawl on one of Nami's discarded maps, and Usopp can just barely make out the "FUK U SABO U ARENT DEAD" written with dark stains, the paper's edges half-charred. Hardly a second later, the stains spread to the tabletop, spelling: "GIVE THAT TO LUFFY PLEASE"
He throws the map across the room and sinks to the floor. No one believes the liar when he tells them there's a ghost aboard.

Summary
Everything everyone does is in their own self-interest.
"I like your hat," she calls out quietly.
And the change is instantaneous.
He stops where he stands, a hand on his head and his knees still bent to take another step, and turns to look over his shoulder. There's a moment of silence where he says nothing, just peering at her with squinted eyes, before:
"Thanks!" he beams. His smile is wide and unchecked, so wide that it might make his cheeks ache. He doesn't have laugh lines, but the way he smiles makes her imagine that he's spent his whole life grinning like that, warmly and brightly, so sincere and upfront that the breath gets punched right out her lungs.
Sometimes, there are people close to exceptions.
But not quite.20 years apart, and two people that don't make any sense.
