Summary
Miles toed the ground with the tip of his shoe, eyes downcast as he studied the traces through the dirt. Around him his unlikely friend gathered the few items they found to take with him on the next leg of his quest. A tightness tugged at his chest as he watched his new found companion prepare to depart, leaving him alone once again.
Miles cleared his throat softly, causing the older boy to stop his movements and look at the small kit.
"Is there something you need, fox?"
Miles swallowed hard, moving his eyes to look up toward the boy's face. He worried his lower lip as he tried to gain the courage he would need to ask his question. Intense purple orbs continued to study his small frame, making the tightness increase.
"Umm." he stuttered, pulling his hands back behind his back. "What if...I mean...would it be possible if..." Miles stopped, taking a deep breath to find his courage. "Could I come with you?"
