I slipped.
It was an honest mistake: overestimating how wide the bench was and the tread of my boots, my right foot landed on the curved edge and plummeted. I yelped and flailed and tried in vain to catch myself. I squeezed my eyes shut and braced for the impact.
Instead of hard gravel, I hit leather wrapped muscle.
I kept my eyes closed, scrambling to grab fistfuls of his jacket, kicking my legs under me as they slid from the bench. I couldn't see how he'd gotten over the bench so fast - maybe he'd been standing and I hadn't heard it over my own dumbassness - but the sweet, rich scent of him filled my nose, the warmth of his body pressing into my back, the soft grunt of exertion as he helped me stand back up.
"Thanks," I smiled. God, I wanted to see him. He cleared his throat, and even though I was on my own feet again, he still had me in his arms. I felt his fingers pressing into my shoulders. My own hands settled into the crook of his elbows, then, slowly, drifted upward over his biceps. Damn, he felt strong.
