“Hah! I’ve been told I have that kind of face.”, Carol's trying, and failing, to act nonchalant.
Zosia leans closer, warm breath in her ear, “I thought someone should come claim you.”
Her long fingers close around Carol’s forearm and she’s got nothing, no smart comeback, no snarky remarks, not even an awkward laugh. She suddenly becomes a teenage virgin who’s never once been flirted with, her breathing turns shallow and she’s now struggling not to hyperventilate. Zosia’s near and attentive enough to notice it.
“Carol, Would you like to go outside with me?”, and it’s the stupidest question ever asked in the history of stupid questions, because Carol would agree to go anywhere with this woman right now.
