Make it simple, he would say, when he would try to make you pancakes for breakfast every morning but it always tasted so off you never finished everything. Neither did he. Sometimes, it wasn’t because it tasted bad.
But you disagree. It’s never simple. Good things in life never come so simply to you.
I know, he replied. And he smiled. Shirtless and still gutting his pancakes with a fork, he chortled. But aren’t I a good thing?
Of course you are, you rebutted. Your pancakes still laid half finished on the white ceramic plate. A colorful yet very blackened poster of The Beatles hung over your very slim dining table.
And us, he began, getting out of his seat so abruptly the entire table shook.
We are simple, right?

Hobie Brown stays with you and makes you breakfast every morning. You can never finish the pancakes he makes, but it’s not because he’s a bad cook.

Summary
You scrunch your nose and twist your lips, staring at Kenma’s monitor. There are nine minutes left on the opening countdown to his stream, the one you edited for him.
“You can’t be serious right now,” you tell him.
He ignores you. He’s on his phone sharing the stream’s link to his other social media platforms. You sigh, shift some granola bar wrappers lying on his desk and place the bowl of rice porridge in front of him.
“I can’t believe you’re doing this right now.”
“It’ll be fine,” he replies. His voice is hoarse and scratchy when it leaves his throat, causing you to wince as if you’re the one in pain.
“You can barely even talk right now.”
