“You’re such a good friend.” First gunshot. “But I really didn’t need that.” Second gunshot. “But if you had, we wouldn’t have had to go on a date, you know.” And there it is, and Eddie is lying dying on the floor, not for the first time, probably not for the last.
Or: Post auction, Buck is concerned about how much Eddie spent, and Eddie has to confess he wanted to buy a lot more.

Buck was at the bench press, muscles working beneath his navy T-shirt in a way Eddie hadn’t really registered before. His chest expanded with each lift, the pecs flexing in smooth, solid arcs, shoulders rounded and powerful, biceps bulging as he gripped the bar tight. Sure, Buck had always been strong, it was practically a requirement for the job. But this? This was different. His lanky frame had given way to shoulders that looked broader, chest fuller, the fabric stretched across his muscles in ways that made Eddie’s throat go dry.

“Hey Eds, you here on a date or something?” Asks Buck.
“Technically yeah, but not really, no,” says Eddie with a grimace. “What about you? What are you doing here?”
“Oh, Maddie invited me to dinner.”
Eddie’s brows furrow instantly as he visibly tenses. "What? No she didn’t. Maddie invited me to dinner.”
“So, you’re here, on a date…with my sister?” That is infinitely worse than Eddie being on a date with some random woman. “What the hell is wrong with you? She’s married! To our boss! She’s my fucking sister!”
“Wait wait, no it’s not—it’s not a real date! Remember the mystery bidder? From the auction?”
Buck nods slowly, completely bemused.
“Well the bidder was me. Well, me through Maddie. I really didn’t want to date anyone so I asked her to make a bid on behalf of me. But in exchange, she pretty much forced me to go to dinner with her.”
“Except Maddie isn’t here, and she invited me to this restaurant.”
A laugh escapes Eddie’s lips. “I think we’ve been duped Buck.”
“Yeah no kidding.”
Maddie uses her date with a bachelor to parent-trap Buck and Eddie
