Unova and Kalos broke Ash down and rebuilt him. He had thrown himself into the fire and come out the other side not stronger, but changed. Having the Legend of Death and Destruction's favor would do that.
As Ash continues to grow and build his team of battle-hardened, chaotic Pokemon, he becomes embroiled in Galar's past, present, and future.
His name is becoming known, his deeds recognized. Whether that's good remains to be seen.

Blinking, Lillie looks towards the area that Kiawe was looking in, and, sure enough, there were six desks.
“That’s what we were wondering before Lillie came in, though we thought we would be getting two new classmates,” Mallow says.
“The Professor should be here soon,” Lana reminds them. “He’ll know.”
They ponder over the extra desk for another five minutes when Professor Kukui walks in-
“Alola, class!”
-and the answer to the extra desk as well.
