Summary
Oyuki steps through the threshold, spotting her shamisen propped against a wooden stand that Atsu had built for it.
A permanent place.
Outside, Atsu’s mother’s garden is replanted and thriving. Kiku is sorting through the flower basket, and Atsu is waiting idly for Oyuki beneath the tree, smiling softly at her approach.
The flower Oyuki had picked for her is twined within the strip of red fabric around the tuning box of Atsu’s shamisen.
Roots, before Oyuki even knew they had grown.

Summary
“You will die by fire,” The Devil announces.
“Is that a threat or prophecy?” It makes a big difference.
The Devil purses her lips. “The latter. It could be both, though. If I burn you alive here and now, it would be both. Because I would have correctly foreseen your death.”
Eve resists the urge to argue semantics. It is unwise to spend too long arguing with the Devil, lest she grow bored and look for a way to entertain herself. Instead, she asks the far more important question. “Are you going to do that?”

Summary
For Villanelle, it’s about getting closer. She wants to rip into the meat of Eve and climb inside, nestle between her ribs against the muscle of her heart, and feel it constrict when Eve takes a breath.
But lukewarm shepherd’s pie is an acceptable substitute.

I saw there was a fic fest and used it as an excuse to write something very outside my normal prose style. Technically a 'what if' fic where Eve catches Villanelle after the s1 finale, but it hardly matters, there is so little plot to be found here. Slightly different versions of the characters than I normally write them, mostly because Villanelle has gone all in on the depersonalization disorder.
