Summary
Life for Shadow after everything had become so... boring. Food, pleasure, sex, all reduced to being mundane.
Every bite of a meal was bland, every crunch of a once loved snack was frustrating, every lick across a stranger's fur leaving him with nothing but his imagination, every kiss was empty...
It was all pointless.
That is, until the moment he's pinned below his rival during a fight, finally gifted the taste of something that he'd been so desperately craving.
or: Shadow loses his sense of taste suddenly thanks to complications with his Black Arms DNA. During a heated fight, Shadow comes to the realisation that maybe Sonic was more use to him than he thought.
Sonic thinks it wise to experiment and find out what tastes the best.

Summary
Sonic and Shadow have been in a happy relationship for a good year now. Spending their time on typical couple activities such as going on dates, casual hanging out and ending the day off with a good kiss and cuddle. A bit less typical was their ever persisting rivalry, though they couldn't imagine it being any other way. They were both perfectly content, and neither felt anything was missing from their dynamic.
But Sonic still gets curious sometimes.
Or: if two aces were to try out sex out of pure, unfiltered boredom.

“No,” Shadow interrupted, willing his face to not flush at the way Sonic’s ears seemed to perk back up immediately as he spoke. “No, I like them. They’re my favorite, actually. Thank you.”

Sonic’s voice drops in time with his eyes, tracing a map from Shadow’s chest, down his thighs then back up. “I know a way you could make yourself feel even better. If you’re down to clown a little longer, of course.”
It’s the stupidest thing Shadow’s ever heard. He can’t think of anything, past, present or future that he would be more “down” for.
Shadow rolls his eyes half-heartedly, blindly grasping at some semblance of control. “Too lazy to do it yourself?”
Sonic chuckles again, a shorter, gruff thing that travels like pinpricks down Shadow’s spine. “If I got my hands on you right now I don’t think I could stop.”
Six months into their relationship, Shadow still can’t wrap his head around why Sonic needs permission to touch him.
