A great tale which does the will they or won't they better than most. Stands decently well on its own.
If you do wish to read on after it, the sequels are on hiatus and heavily tied together, and thus not eligible for the complete category. However, despite the extended hiatus, there remain strong indications that the series is not actually dead, but we might be waiting a while for the final few chapters.

Summary
After Satoshi is mistaken for a wanted criminal and is forced to spend the night away from his friends, Serena and Pikachu find support in each other, and a bond is formed. Maybe in the literal sense, they both realize, when the next morning Serena is somehow able to understand word by word everything Pikachu says.
