It was reasonable, predictable even that he’d be angry at the man who had essentially condemned him to a slow, painful death. But Simon still so desperately wanted to make amends.
“I’m sorry, Jack. I had no idea it was an X-Ray. I didn’t know.” His voice was softer now, meek. He could hardly stand to look him in the eye. The man didn’t reply, turning away and carefully laying back down with a huff.
“I don’t need your apologies, Butcher.”

While recovering in the aftermath of the horrors endured inside the Iron Lung, Simon shares a room with Jack as he battles the effects of the radiation; the radiation that Simon himself had accidentally subjected him to. Driving himself half mad with guilt, Simon makes it his sole mission to apologize to Jack, to make it up to him, to pay his debt. And maybe, just maybe get closer to him along the way.
