Summary
The boy slowly came back out, taking his time in the hallway and looking around. He stopped just shy of entering the living room, eyeing the two of them on the couch, specifically Will.
"You live here?" he asked, frowning.
"Yep."
"Where do you sleep?"
"In the bedroom you accidentally found," Will pointed, trying to stay calm.
He looked at Mike. "So where do you sleep?"
"In the bedroom," Mike said, pointing even though it was very obvious at this point.
"But there's only one bed."
"Yep," they both said simultaneously.
He snorted. "What, are you like, gay or something?"
"Yes?" Will said, wishing it still wasn't so terrifying.
"I mean technically..." Mike started before Will elbowed him rather sharply to shut him up, because they did not want to get into that with a 10 year old right now. "Ok, yes. For all intents and purposes. Yes."
...
It's been five years since Mike and Will reconnected and finally got together. Five years later and they've settled into a normal, quiet life together with Addie, in a nice predictable routine they all enjoy. But their lives are once again turned upside down in an entirely different way with an unexpected arrival.

"Children, children, CHILDREN!" Murray finally snapped, pinching the bridge of his nose. The three of them shut up and looked at him in shock. "Enough of this pointless, childish bickering already. If I wanted to watch drama like this I would turn on a soap opera or telenovela. My god, do I have to play therapist to EVERYONE in this group?? I could sue you all for emotional compensation!"
Mike started to argue. He didn't know what he was going to say, exactly, but he was still pent up and Murray seemed like a better target than his two best friends. Unfortunately he didn't get very far.
"Ba-ba-ba! NO. Shut up and SIT DOWN. It's my turn to talk," Murray said forcefully, shoving the three of them onto the couch, with Mike somehow ending up in the middle.
"Oh no," Jonathan said under his breath.
"Shit," Nancy said at the same time.
Joyce hurried forward and stepped in between them. "Murray, Murray, no," she pleaded. "I know what you're doing, STOP."
Or: Murray meddles, Mike is hella confused, the world is ending, and Will won't talk to him.
OR: Mike runs away from his feelings and then for his actual, literal life.

Summary
He hadn't asked for a picture. That felt weird, for some reason, but now it was clearly a mistake. He should have asked, so he could have a heads up. That way he could have readjusted the image of Will in his head so he didn't feel like passing out at the sight of him.
Will had gotten hot.
Like, objectively speaking. Not in a romantic way. Mike wasn't gay. Not that there was anything wrong with that. Will was gay, he had told everyone about a year ago, but Mike wasn't. Still, he could recognize a person's general attractiveness level. He could still recognize that El was pretty even though they were no longer dating and he didn't have any feelings for her.
But Will was off the charts. And Mike was having a hard time processing this. Like what do you even say to your now hot best friend you haven't seen in 638 agonizing days, without sounding gay, but his newfound level of attraction is the only thing currently in your head?

The Hopper-Byers visit for Christmas, and the Party is determined to give El all the fun snowy winter experiences she never had. But Mike is having a *slight* crisis when he realizes how much his best friend has changed, and how much he can't stop thinking about it.

"We're still pranking Dustin when we get there," Will reminded them.
"Seriously?" El sighed. "You really think you can pull that off?"
"We have been SO careful for the past month not to say anything," Mike said. "He doesn't suspect a thing."
"Yeah, over the phone," she pointed out. "When you get there you're gonna have to hide it in person. No holding hands, no kissing, separate bedrooms..."
"We can survive," Will said, though he seemed a little hesitant now.
"You won't last a day," El guaranteed. "Just watch."
"Dustin's smart, he'll figure it out before the first day's over," Mike said confidently.
"You sure about that? He may be smart but he can also be pretty oblivious about relationships."
"He already knows I like Mike," Will said. "Surely it won't take him that long."
"I have my doubts," El shrugged. "Either way I get entertainment from both sides."

The Party take a long overdue roadtrip to visit Dustin in Utah. Mike and Will decide to prank him by not revealing their new relationship, wanting to see how long it will take him to realize the truth. But it's a lot harder than they thought, especially as Addie and Will grow closer together.

"I'm in love with him," he gasped, the words finally breaking free after 3 days rattling around his mind.
Max was quiet for a moment, with absolutely no reaction. She just stared. "Yes, and?"
"What do you mean 'yes, and?' That's your reaction?"
"Oh right, I'm sorry, wow, my god, I am in shock, I never saw this coming," she deadpanned. "Who would have thought."
"Ok, ok, shut up," Mike groaned, leaning against the steering wheel.
"So what's your problem?"
Mike stared at her for a second. "I'm in love with him," he said again, with emphasis in case she had somehow missed it.
Max blinked. "Holy shit, are you just finding this out NOW?"
"No, it was like three days ago."
"Three days?!?! MICHAEL. You have been in love with him for YEARS. How could you not know?"
"How did you know?!?!"
"It was OBVIOUS."
"Not to me!! Why didn't you say anything?"
"We thought you knew!"
