Summary
While stuck in port for repairs, the crew of esteemed pirate Captain John Price's vessel keep themselves busy with a variety of activities. For one John 'Soap' MacTavish, this includes accepting a contract to hunt down a ferocious sea monster referred to as "The Ghost", which seems to have an insatiable taste for human blood and a horrifying skull face that drives survivors to madness. Soap manages to injure the creature during a storm, but can't quite make the killing blow before it slips back into the abyss from which it came.
But when he finds it hiding in a cave to nurse its injuries, he learns that the Ghost is more than just a ravenous, mindless beast, and he has to make an important decision: complete the bounty and get enough gold to cement himself as one of the greatest pirates of all time, or betray his found family and side with a known killer.

Simon still couldn’t bear to put the necklace on. It wasn’t a rational fear anymore – his dad was long gone – but each time he weighed the feeling of the pendant in his hand, he could hear his dad’s voice. If I catch you with that thing again, I’ll fucking destroy it.
Part of Ghost wanted to know who his soulmate was, and the other wanted to hide the necklace far, far away before his dad could find him with it. Yet Ghost kept staring, and he kept telling himself the pendant wasn’t warmer against his skin than it usually was. But it was warm, and it felt as if it was trying to burn a mark onto his skin. He gladly pressed it further into his palm just to see if it would do something, but all he accomplished was the stinging realisation that his soulmate was here, and it was Soap.or, everyone owns a necklace that displays your soulmate's emotions through colours and their proximity through temperature. Ghost never expected to meet his, and Soap thought his was long gone.

Summary
There was an old legend about soulmates, people whose lives were entwined by the string of fate. It was said that soulmates found each other; drawn together by a hidden sixth sense that awoke when they met. There wasn't a concrete telling of whomever was your soulmate, you just knew when you met them.
The idea of soulmates was a sweet concept for romantics; to others, a mere myth. Those who did have a soulmate kept the secret for themselves.
Soap never believed in soulmates, waving off his grandparents’ stories as fairy tales.
Then a song got stuck in his head and changed everything.
