Summary
In this AU, Matt started as the kid who lied about his extracurriculars and sabotaged club projects at his old school just to feel important. Now, the "asshole mask" has slipped, leaving behind someone who is fiercely protective of his friends.
Matt feels like the "normal" one. He’s smart—actually very smart when it comes to history, urban exploration, and logistics—but he doesn't see it. He thinks he has to earn his spot in the group by being the most useful or the most impressive, which usually leads to him over-extending himself.
Now that he’s part of the group, Matt has realized that while he isn't a "prodigy" like Gus or a "natural leader" like Amity, he has a very specific set of skills the others lack: Street Smarts. If the group needs to sneak into a concert, find the best thrift store for a costume, or figure out which teacher is a "soft touch" for extensions, Matt is the guy. He’s the "Fixer."
He’s still coy and loves a good verbal spar, but the venom is gone. It’s moved from “I’m better than you” to “I’m the only one here with a lick of common sense, clearly.”
