The mattress shifted, Buck started to pull away, his heat disappearing from his side.
His hand shot out, wrapping around Buck’s middle, dragging him back in with surprising strength for someone who was barely awake.
“Move and I’m breaking up with you,” he mumbled into Buck’s skin, voice gravelly and thick with sleep.
Buck snorted, laughter low and fond. “You wouldn’t.”
“Wanna try me?”
Buck stilled, before he softly answered, “...Five more minutes.”
He smiled, slow and smug, lips brushing against the curve of Buck’s neck.
“Good boy.”

Summary
Eddie is just sitting there but Buck feels like he could combust at any second.
He’s lounged out on the couch, legs spread in that casual way that should be illegal, one arm draped lazily over the backrest while the other holds his book. His fingers are curled around the pages, absentmindedly brushing against them as he reads. Buck can’t focus on the book, or the way Eddie’s lips part slightly as he mouths the words, or even the gentle furrow of his brows as he concentrates.

Eddie scoffed. “I do not.”
Chris just gave him a knowing look. “Mmm-hmm.”
Eddie kept his eyes on the road. “Drop it.”
Chris turned to stare out the window. “Must be hard, being so in love with someone and not being able to do anything about it.”

Eddie rolled his eyes, his lips curving into a grin despite himself. Shoving his phone into his pocket after he replied, he grabbed his wallet and keys before stepping outside.

Summary
Anger is the absence of love.
Eddie has always known this.
When he first got the news of Buck’s choice to sue the department he fell into the five stages of grief.
First he denied.
Told Bobby he was wrong, that Buck wouldn’t be that selfish. Wouldn’t jeopardize everything they had built for some job. He would never do that.
And then Athena called off the APB and Eddie marched into her office and yelled. He screamed and fought with her. To Eddie’s surprise she remained calm and offered him lunch when he was done screaming.
Then came the anger.
And he was never able to get past that stage.

After Buck loses his leg in the same incident where everyone found out that Eddie and him were potentially dating, Eddie has to look inward and understand himself or he could risk losing everything.
