Summary
“Lots of nerdy dudes with intimacy issues keep fish tanks.”
When Neuvillette learns how close Wriothesley came to being killed by the Primordial Sea, he finds his desire to care for the Melusines (diligently and from a safe emotional distance) has expanded to include the Duke of the Fortress of Meropide.
It’s not that odd. Neuvillette can do his best to help this particular human thrive, just like he’s done with the Melusines. It will help him better understand humans in general, which will help him better understand his purpose.
Surely he’s never going to have to think about it any more closely than that.

Summary
“What do you mean I’m the only person—I’m just a Beta.”
“Exactly. That means you lack the predisposition that may cause you to act irrationally in Neuvillette’s company. On top of that, you are the few humans that Monsieur Neuvillette truly trusts. Hence, this will be a perfect solution.”
“Sigewinne—”
“You’ve accompanied Omegas before. I know it.”
An embarrassed cough hacked out of Wriothesley’s lungs in response to that statement. Did she have to be so blunt about it? Those Omegas were nothing as compared to Neuvillette—the literal Hydro Sovereign of Fontaine.
“Wriothesley. If you do not help, I fear that it will only worsen the situation. Monsieur Neuvillette may not accept a stranger to his nest—at least, compared to an Alpha, you will also be less affected by his heat.”
Wriothesley was born and raised Beta, but when he's tasked to help the Chief Justice of Fontaine through a heat cycle, he knows it's an offer he can't refuse. What he wasn't expecting was just how much he could be affected by Monsieur Neuvillette.

Summary
“Is there a reason you never want to spend your ruts with me?” Neuvillette asks, so direct that he catches Wriothesley utterly off guard. “Is there some fault with me?” Neuvillette asks softly.
Wriothesley’s head snaps back up. “No,” he says. “No, Neuvillette, not at all. It’s… a fault with me.” He rubs his jaw, forcing himself to meet Neuvillette’s eyes even though he wants, very badly, to look anywhere else. “I’m not… When I’m in rut, it’s…” He drives both hands into his hair, holding it back from his face and closing his eyes. “I’m not good,” he finally says, dropping his hands and hanging his head.
Wriothesley has always struggled through his ruts alone, terrified he will hurt a partner, but Neuvillette refuses to let him suffer alone.

Summary
How Neuvillette and Wriothesley met times and times again, in ballrooms, in meeting rooms, working for the future of Fontaine, investigating in its rainy streets or catching a break in between their duties.
And how they fell in love in the process, slowly, absolutely.
(aka a canon compliant sloooooow burn aimed for a happy ending)
