Summary
An exploration of Luciano's past and present through two, unrelated events. Or perhaps too related.

His nonno- who existed in Luciano's childish memory as a silent, decaying old man- would press a coin to his palm. He rasped something in Calabrian. Luciano couldn't catch the words on time to translate, but he knew what the coin was for. All Lonardos carried them, as a reminder of their allegiance. His had the silhouette of Articuno etched into it. The newer ones carried a stylized L.
The man was also one of maybe two people who could treat his Pops with anything less than reverence and get away with it. Pa scoffed at the idea of praying to Articuno before a big job. And he wouldn't offer it first choice of whatever spoils they raked in. But, Pops always stilled under his old man's appraising stare. He didn't swipe the coin from Luciano, either.
Articuno worked mostly as a tool, now. A poorly-honed one, for all its vicious power. It had been a generous god to them, too giving. The Lonardos built themselves out of reliance.
Moltres was smarter. It still held something over the Lafayettes, and so they kept coming back.
