    The UA celebration was one of the most talked about events in the school calendar. Midoriya had already accepted that he would be going alone. He was happy to, happy to cut through the anxiety and uncertainty of dating and just have a good time at the ball. And if he had to fight down a self-satisfied smile every time Todoroki politely but firmly turned away a fangirl, that was for him and Uraraka to discuss later.

    Then the fateful question reached him. "I think we should go to the ball together. What do you think?"

    He looked up, meeting Todoroki's eyes and grinning, only just keeping himself from punching the air. "I'd love t-"

    "My father wants me to have a respectable date for the ball. He also doesn't like you. This is the best way to annoy him, and Uraraka said you were planning on going alone. I think we should pretend to date. Is that okay with you?"

    Todoroki was peering at him questioningly, and Midoriya tried to remember how to breathe, how to get back the air that had been pushed from his lungs in one fell swoop.

    He was an idiot. He was going to get hurt. He was incapable of saying no to Todoroki.

    "Sounds like a plan."
