“Conrad,” she murmured, though it wasn’t mocking when it left her lips this time. It was a plea. A prayer. A weak, wounded sound she knew he’d never be able to resist. It was an injury he could heal. A problem he could fix. An absence he could fill to stop her from feeling any more pain. In short, it was specifically designed to go straight to Conrad Fisher’s heart, bypassing his brain and all its honorable intentions completely to settle in that aching cavity above his ribs.
(AU where Conrad never learns about Jeremiah cheating and Belly goes through with the wedding. It lasts about as long as you’d expect.)
