The boy she’s loved since she first laid eyes on him all those years ago, disparaging her for all the Ton to hear. She’d put up with it when he’d implied she did not count as a woman. Helped to free him from a planned entrapment by her own cousin, to her own family's detriment. Accepted that he only saw her as a friend. She had worked very hard on that part.
Penelope is a lady. She does not curse. But this is a step too damn far.
In one night she’s discovered her cousin Jack has been fleecing the Ton and has chosen to run, leaving the Featheringtons ruined and practically destitute. Her best friend Eloise has discovered that she is Lady Whistledown, declared them no longer friends and ravaged her bedroom. They had fought so viciously, words spoken in the heat of the moment, explanations and apologies ignored.
Any other night she would have fled in tears at Colin’s words. But tonight? After all this? She is fuming.

Colin is excited to begin his world tour tomorrow morning, and start fresh after the humiliation of his courtship of Marina. He's grateful he had a chance to apologize to Penelope here at Hastings Ball. But there’s something he can’t quite shake about the way she took off just now, how she refused his dance. Are they not still friends?
This is an alternative end of S1 and then S2 Colin and Penelope story. Mostly from Colin’s POV. Slow burning to Polin HEA. But maybe, just maybe, Pen kicked thoughts and actions into motion a little sooner than the show version thought.
