Summary
When living in a world with a sandy ocean in which everything sinks, recording and taking good care of those records is essential. The Empire is large. the Empire has many ships, thus, there are many things to be recorded. The young Archivist on Skyros is only one of the many people in the Empire who record. Every day another page is added to the ship’s records, each as dry and factual as the last one. The Archivist writes and writes like a good puppet. However, when the criminals from an island exiled by the Empire decide to take revenge on the ones who shunned them it also severs the strings keeping her in this routine. For the first time Itia finally learns the true power which words can hold, even if she has to learn it through realising that the greatest pain a human can feel is loss.

What if the roles were reversed? What if it was the Mud Whale who attacked the Empire and not the other way around? What if Sami gets to add chapters to her story past the age of 14? What if we followed Itia’s records instead?
An alternative universe in which the roles of our beloved characters are somewhat reversed.

His nose is still bleeding, bruised from when that wimp had punched him. The boy apologized for it afterwards. It was laughable, really, but it did hurt. It still hurts.
His ribs ache too, tender and bruised. It must be from when Lykos kicked him. She had always fought like an animal, just like him. He presses the palm of his hand against the bruise and hisses at the burning ache. There is something annoyingly familiar about it, like his flesh can't bear to forget about the touch so soon, and so it clings to the memory with colors of yellows and purples; as if his skin is a record of her touch.

Many things can happen during a ball, the most interesting or -if one dares to say- scandalous ones like to happen on balconies.
Rochalízo likes many things, but attending balls is not one of them. Plagued by melancholy and feeling trapped in the stuffy ballroom makes the young man eager to escape it. Therefore, it's no surprise that he takes the first opportunity to slip away. Rescue comes in the shape of a young violinist named Aoidé, a strange man foreign to Amonlogia. Yet, the two men seem to have more in common than Rochalizo initially realises.

The remaining appeal of wine had disappeared, after its strong smell had no longer been the one of barrel’s, but the smell of her brother-in-law’s breath. Gun shots had gone from simply being annoyingly loud, to a warning from impending death. Dungeons had gone from being something she had been scared of as a child for being too quiet, to a place she avoids to enter as an adult, because that very silence is missing from it now. "

“I can see that,” he answers jokingly. He can afford to jest like this when it is only the Duke’s son, and not his excellency himself.
Anticheiras makes a face. Gampá assumes it is supposed to show amusement, but the young man fails at it.
He shakes his head. “No, I meant that I am worried about my youngest brother.”

Summary
The final battle is won, the Nouses have left the world and Kivotos has become a home for many new people.
Does that mean everyone is finally at peace?
No.
Especially not for the former citizens of the Empire.
With the Empire resting at the bottom of the sea, taking oh so many lives with it, and Orca still not waking up from his coma, they don't really have a lot to smile about.
And who knew that experiencing emotions properly for the first time could be so exhausting...or
Atsalí and Kalamári experience the grief of loosing the most important people to them together, while Itia and Kannavi fight with the thought of possibly having to do the same.
Another person realises how thankful he can be to not be plagued by the reality or possibility of that. -
