Summary
Waking up in a forest without any knowledge of your past and who you are, you join the house leaders of the Officers Academy to search for a way to return your memories. Unfortunately, the church has different plans for you, and Fate places you in the centre of a cruel game with deadly stakes. It certainly doesn't help to fall in love with a house leader who is doomed to be your demise.

"I thought I'd come here and one of the Church's healers would just wave their hands to return my memories," you mumble, scribbling a tiny Claude with little, evil horns on his head in the corner of Linhardt's notes.
Edelgard looks at you like you've just insulted her whole noble lineage. "That isn't how magic works."
You throw your arms up in frustration to emphasise that yes, that's the point. You don't know how anything works in this place, and you doubt Byleth's four pages of lesson plans are going to help.

"Professor?” Edelgard is flushed as you pull away, nearly as red as her armor that lies discarded on the floor, and her eyes gaze up at you, heavy-lidded and hazy. “Are you all right?”
“I don’t think so,” you reply, calmly. “I think I might be having a heart attack.”
In the flurry of panic that follows for the next several minutes, you learn three things: 1. Small as she is, Edelgard is apparently strong enough to throw you over her shoulder and sprint to the medical wing within seconds, 2. Having Physic cast on you when you’re not actually dying makes you feel very queasy, and 3. You weren't having a heart attack, you were just stupidly in love.

Byleth isn’t used to having a heartbeat. Especially one that behaves so erratically whenever Edelgard is nearby.

Summary
Byleth has experienced much in her lifetime. Much more than any normal human would experience in their lifetime. But Byleth was no ordinary human. As the vessel of the Goddess, she has been forced to experience the war many times over. She's become sick of seeing death and destruction, wishing to end the cycle of pain by preventing the war altogether, no matter what the cost. Even if it meant getting close to the monster who would start the war herself.
