He is going to blame the beer – even though he only had one - or the late hour – it was barely nine - or maybe even the heat – it was the coolest evening El Paso had seen in a while. He would have found an excuse the following morning, woken up by the bumpy road or the chatter in the truck, when he would regret ever saying anything.
