    Emiel Regis is not a human being, not like any other, at least. The vampire walks through the threshold before slowly closing the door behind himself; he seems surprised to see the witcher awake, his eyebrows slightly tilted. Geralt can only imagine that the same surprise is mirrored upon his own face. The silence is deafening and all Geralt is able to hear is his laboured breath, his heart whistling in his ears. Regis smiles and the witcher can’t do anything but stare.
