The dream, or at least what he could recall later had started like his most frequent nightmare— him standing on the Reaping stage on his eighteenth birthday— but then it had turned when Maysilee had. That part he remembered clearly, she was in her pink Reaping dress with the skirt just ending by her mid-thigh and there was a white bow tied around her waist.

His arms coiled with muscles that she had noticed on the train ride to the capitol; a result of the bootlegging he did, had mesmerized her from the beginning. Now they were laid splayed one over his head blocking out his ear, and the other laid straight reaching his waist.

When Haymitch and Maysilee are crowned the victors of the second quater quell they return home to find their families murdered. Together they must navigate their grief and trauma, and quickly find that it's easier to greive together than to grieve alone.
