When mysterious beings called Echoes — fragments of Heroic Spirits slipping through the cracks left by Space Quakes — begin appearing across Tengu City, ordinary high schooler Shido Itsuka finds himself at the center of something far bigger than he bargained for.
After forming a contract with Alaya, the living embodiment of Humanity's Will to Survive, Shido gains the ability to fight Echoes by installing the abilities of Heroic Spirits through mysterious objects called Class Cards. But defeating Echoes is only half the problem — Shido must also navigate his mission with Ratatoskr, a secret organization that wants him to form bonds with powerful beings called Spirits to prevent catastrophic Space Quakes from tearing the world apart.
Heroic Spirits, ancient kings, weapons that predate human history, and beings that exist beyond the scale of ordinary life — and somehow Shido has to deal with all of it while also going on dates.
