Summary
The voice, Feng Xin registered dumbfoundedly, despite the broken phrases in which it spoke mingling into each other, tumbling over each other so fast it sounded like there were at least four Mu Qing's speaking, was now clear as day and impossibly close, far too close to be coming from someone who had just turned, facing away from him. In an ultimate attempt to refute his suspicion, he let his mind flicker to their private communication array, only to find it firmly closed. He stared at Mu Qing’s back, wide-eyed, his mouth suddenly very, very dry. If he wasn't hallucinating, then there was only one explanation for what was happening:
He was hearing Mu Qing’s thoughts.
On a mission with his hated rival Mu Qing, Feng Xin is hit by a blast - and suddenly he can hear Mu Qing's thoughts. All of them. Everywhere. And what he learns makes him question whether he's ever known Mu Qing at all.

Summary
What does Mu Qing look like?
That’s stupid. He knows what Mu Qing looks like. He’s spent the greater part of eight centuries bemoaning that smug, arrogant turn of Mu Qing’s mouth. He can tell Mu Qing from his shadow.
So why is it that his brain turns up a distorted amalgamation of Hua Cheng’s eyes, Jian Lan’s lips, and Xie Lian’s nose? Why is it that the harder he tries to remember, the more Mu Qing fades into a stranger’s face?
(Feng Xin has a nightmare that Mu Qing died in Mount Tonglu. Mu Qing comforts him.)

Summary

Summary
