Summary
“Theo? Can you tell me what’s wrong?”
“He didn’t come home.” He stutters his way through the sentence, like it’s the scariest thing he’s ever said. Like he’s forcing himself to say it but doesn’t understand why it’s so scary, just that it is. Josh frowns at the screen in response. Tentatively types, possibly abandoned.
Jesus. What the hell is wrong with people these days?
“Who didn’t come home, Theo? Your dad?”
Theo, 5. Child in distress. Possibly abandoned.
The radio crackles with acknowledgment as Theo exhales shakily. It’s wet, like he’s building up all the courage his little body has to offer. “My Buck.”
--
Or, Theo calls 9-1-1 because Buck doesn't come home after he gets hurt on a shift.

Summary
Bobby was louder than Buck was used to and he knew this wasn’t going to end with him being big. "What I want to know is why this place is so filthy. Everywhere I look there’s evidence of you slacking off and being sloppy. What were you doing all day, huh?” With each insult Buck felt himself getting younger and younger. He knew somewhere in his adult mind that he needed to get a grip immediately and grow the fuck up, but he was already too far gone. “I bet you were sitting around texting your girl of the night, not even waiting to get off shift just like you did when you first got here. I can’t believe I went to bat for you after you slept around on the job, went to the department mandated therapist, and decided to sleep with her too during a session.”
“I’m disappointed. I expected better from you, Firefighter Buckley. I should have known I can’t trust you to do anything right after you filed that stupid goddamned lawsuit.” He spat Buck’s last name out like it was poison, too bitter to address even slightly casually. “You could’ve ruined all of our lives! You’re just a selfish! Fucking! Brat!” Bobby enunciated the last three words and out of sheer rage and hatred, punched a hole in the wall next to him. Buck broke.
