Summary
Arthur and Parker are struggling private investigators in beautiful, terrible Arkham. A mysterious, immensely wealthy man who introduces himself as Iscariot has a case that they can't refuse. John, his violent son who has strewn a pile of corpses in his wake, has kidnapped his brother Yellow. Iscariot fears that John may act against Yellow if they make a move. Arthur and Parker's mission? To go undercover at the local middle-school and keep a careful eye on the duo.
John and Yellow are newcomers to Arkham. Being a god fragment and burdened by destiny would be difficult for anyone, but to make matters worse, Yellow is also twelve. John is desperate not only to blend into human society, but also to keep Yellow safe - and happy - and loved.
And nobody will stop him.

Summary
“A dinner out, with drinks, music, and dancing,” John continued almost bashfully. “You said, someday, when we returned to Arkham…” His sentence trailed away.
Suddenly, everything slotted into place, as did the meaning in that now-so-distant promise. It hadn’t just been about returning to Arkham, but when they were no longer running for their lives. When they were no longer threatened by insane, all-powerful gods from other planes of reality. When they weren’t bleeding, and broken, and feeling more and more inhuman as the days went on.
When they had finally scrounged up a scrap of peace.
And they had. Somehow, miraculously, they had that, now. Peace. Calm. A life of their own—lives of their own—separated and comfortable and, dare he even think it, stable. By comparison, of course.
How had he allowed that promise to slip by the wayside?

Summary
The shitty motel room was bathed in shadows, the sole light trickling from the partially ajar bathroom door, dabbing a stripe of maize over the sheets and stained wallpaper.
But the glaring light in the otherwise dark room was not what had drawn John's fading attention.
No.
Arthur had done that.
Arthur, who had scrubbed his face in what was likely cold water from a too-old tap, who ran his fingers through his mussed hair, who slowly discarded layer after layer of clothing, bundling coat, tie, and shirt neatly on the counter.
Arthur, thin as a rail, weariness clinging to every jutting bone, battered and bruised and separate and…
Freckled.

Summary
John took a slow, deliberate breath (he actually needed to breathe now) and forced himself to remain in bed, no matter how desperately his itching limbs wanted to toss the covers aside, to move, to flee—
He closed his eyes and counted the heartbeats roaring in his eardrums.

Summary
He flexed his toes on the beige carpeting, the fibers tickling his skin. He had so much skin. It was darker than Arthur’s by a couple shades, less a milky white and more a chestnut brown. His hands were larger than Arthur’s, too, but the fingers were the slightest bit shorter.
All ten of them.
All his.
Just like his feet. Just like his eyes, and his arms, and his legs, and his hair. He had hair now, incessantly tickling him where it fell against his collarbone in dark waves, drooping in front of his face with every shift of his head.
Everything belonged to him and him alone. Just like he’d wanted.
So why did that thought make him sick to his stomach?
