   Summary

   Val almost misses the moment when her foot slides into far less than perfect and yet somehow distantly familiar dancing position. As her legs straighten on instinct, she can feel her arms lifting in front of her, sloping down from the shoulders and curving gently, bending softly at the elbows. Her rough fingertips touch lightly—it feels electrifying.

   Trembling, Val rises up onto her tiptoes. Without opening her eyes, takes the first step and dives into a dance.
