Marinette had known the definition of duty before she'd known how to write —before Ladybug, before France: as a member of the royal family of Nimaresh, she was born into responsibility.
When 13-year-old Marinette accepted the mantle of Ladybug, she hadn't felt all that royal; Paris was her city, and Nimaresh had been doing just fine without her for years. But 5 years later, tragedy forces the country to call for a new order of succesion.
