Summary
He's slipped through Thanatos' fingers every time, pushing past his limits to fulfill his mission, only for the river to wash him back ashore to the place he's grown to survive rather than live in. Like a twisted tapestry the Fates weaved from beyond the shadows of the Underworld, the current always pulled the prince back home with an invisible thread. Thanatos swore to himself that the next time he'd see Zagreus rising out of the stream of souls, he'd sink his head back into the bloody waters and watch him drown.
Or: Thanatos, infuriated by Zagreus constantly leaving his side for the chance of reaching the surface - and constantly hurting himself in the process - decides to wait for Zagreus' expected ressurection by the other end of river Styx. Zagreus, not knowing what awaits him down the current, is revived by a pleasant surprise...
