    Neil Josten was dead.

    Andrew hadn’t had the chance—and hadn’t cared enough—to see his body. All he knew was that one moment, that creature had been beside him, saying thank you, and the next, he had vanished forever, the way good things always tended to do sooner or later.

    The Foxes hadn’t handled it well. The media nearly exploded for days, weeks. The game against the Ravens? A disaster. Without Neil—the key that held together all those people with little in common—nothing made sense.
    Andrew should have been used to that feeling by now: the emptiness, the apathy, the silence.
    And yet, life seemed louder than ever, his mind collapsing under thoughts that had never been there before.

    A lifetime passes: long, dragging, leading nowhere.
    And when Andrew finally closes his eyes—he goes back.

    Neil Josten was right in front of him: face twisted, pale, lips parted in search of breath, hands clutching his stomach so tightly it looked like he might squeeze himself apart. Alive. And exactly as he had been the day they met.

    Neil Josten dies in Baltimore, and Andrew gets a second chance to save them. Minyard isn’t willing to lose him again.

    Mary Wesninski didn't have the chance to run away with Nathaniel during his tryout with Tetsuji. Nathan found out about her plans and killed her at Evermore. He would not give her the chance to escape and would make sure Nathaniel knew the consequences of trying. Nathaniel spends two extra years in Baltimore with his father and building a place for himself, unintentionally, at Ichirou's side. He's sent to Edgar Allan to train under Tetsuji when he is 12.

    He suffers and survives and builds his own life and family.

    A/N THIS FIC IS NOT ABANDONDED. I have no plans to abandon this fic. Unfortunately, updates will continue to be slow and inconsistent, but I am continuing it.
