Summary
The horse the Signoria provides him with tires after a few hours, so he takes post at Scarperia to get to Imola as quickly as possible. He arrives there early in the morning of the following day, and the Duke admits him immediately. He wonders whether the man ever sleeps; it’s not unusual for men in power to keep such odd hours, and he wishes he could drag his tired body to a bed instead; his clothes are covered in dust from what seems like every back country road between Florence and Imola. His thighs are raw from riding, and he’s not sure how much longer he’s going to be able to remain standing.

Summary
Lovecraft stared at him blankly. His stare, however, has lost something of its edge since he actually had to blink now.
(In the beginning, he didn’t know how often he should blink and then ended up with red, bloodshot eyes and John had to rush to the corner pharmacy to get eye drops for him).
“Maybe it will be different this time,” he deadpanned. There was a chocolate stain above his upper lip and John had to stop himself from reaching out and wiping it away.
“It absolutely won’t be.”
Lovecraft looked sad but he did give up on the rest of the chocolate bar. The memories of the stomach cramps must have been still vivid in his mind. -

Summary
