You have a full-ride scholarship to Ebott University. For the first year, you were staying with your best friend who was also enrolled at EU, but that friend took up a transfer offer in the UK for a year. You have to find a place to stay until Trinity moves back after she graduates.
Then you get an email from Alison, you haven't spoken to her since sixth grade. You hadn't thought you would ever hear from her again, not after how she betrayed you and Trinity.
Alison responded to the add you posted about finding roommates, offering to let you stay for as long as you needed. She mentioned that there were eight other roommates, she didn't mention that they were monsters, or that she was dating them. Most of them also seem to hate your guts, it isn't hard to guess she lied about you, you just don't know exactly what she told them. Not until Mutt and Stretch ask you about it that is.
But it isn't like you had any other option, this is a collage town and all the dorms are full. With the upcoming semester all of the affordable apartments and places for rent are takin by incoming students.

Summary
I didn't expect to return home and find out that new neighbors were moving in down the street. This meant one of four things, 1. a family of humans could be moving in, 2. that some monsters were moving in, 3. I wasn't going to be the only hybrid on this street anymore, or 4. any combination of the previous three options. Honestly, I would prefer the latter three options. Humans are kind of iffy when it comes to hybrids and it's a 50/50 chance that I will end up having to avoid them like the plague. When I see a few skeletons taking various things from the moving van and a few cars, my troubles are put to rest.
Little did I know this was only the start of my troubles.
This work has been put on Hiatus (My hyperfixation is elsewhere and I don't know when I will get back to this(

Summary
No one really remembers when it happened, but everyone knows they used to call them by a different name before they settled on the one they use nowadays.
Maybe it´s a way to detach themselves, to turn them even more into monsters than they already were. The word came from Hollywood movies, even though movie zombies were still whole, with bony or dismembered creatures dragging themselves behind them. The term hadn't been so accurate then (or more precisely, the movies had been the ones mistaken), but it worked.
Calling them Severed makes them victims, after all, and no one wants to think of them as such when they sink their bloody fingers (they usually chew the nail to the root) into your daemon and bite down on them.
Basically Avengers daemon!verse in a zombie apocalypse. It gets explained, trust me.
