It’s a truth he long ago accepted. If Obi-Wan were to descend into the darkness then Anakin would have no choice, but to follow. He knows that is not the Jedi way, but there are some things Anakin could care less about when it comes to choosing Obi-Wan.
And if that makes him less of a Jedi then so be it.
“Anakin.” Obi-Wan sighs.
“Don’t pretend.” Anakin nearly begs. “Not now, please.”

Sidious felt his eyes widen despite himself as his attention focused back on Anakin. He was saying something about how he wished to propose to Amidala on their little vacation mission and be married on Naboo. Sidious tried to recover before Anakin noticed, but it seemed luck was not on his side as he tilted his head up, almost challenging Sidious to say something.
“Well?”
Sidious could almost hear his blood pressure rising. He’d known that Anakin had harbored a crush on Amidala since he was a small child, and had even encouraged it quite a few times. Their relationship would make it easier to manipulate the Jedi’s Chosen One against the Jedi and turn him to the Dark Side when the time came. Sidious just hadn’t expected his plans coming to fruition to taste so… bitter.

"I’d like to discuss some of our scenes together, if you have the time." Obi-Wan checked his watch. "Over dinner, maybe, considering the hour?"
