Summary
It’s the end of the war and to Lieutenant Stiles Stilinski, it feels as if everyone is celebrating except for him. Perhaps it is the faces that swim behind his eyelids, lost to time and musket balls. Or perhaps it is the doubt he harbours in his heart that he can truly be good at anything but soldiering.
Regardless, he huddles at one end of the bar, nursing an ale barely worthy of the name and listening while the locals sing their songs and toast to fallen soldiers. He doesn't think about the men lost from his own rifle regiment, and he definitely doesn't think about alpha Lord Hale of Triskele, last seen leaping into battle with typical reckless heroism. Because even if he had survived the battle, nothing could or would ever happen between them. They were from two different worlds.
