The cattle all have their serial numbers branded on their left buttocks—from 0110 to 0114—stark pink over pale skin. All body hair has been removed, making them smooth as the day they were born, any mole or birthmark nakedly displayed, and most of them are on their hands and knees with metal bars locked around their torsos and limbs, screwed tightly to the floor.
“I have them freshly shipped from the breeding farm,” says the Meat Shop Owner, “then I keep them for a few days for quality control, decide if I want to keep some for their milk, and prepare to ship them to the buyers.”
“What’s it like having to keep cattle around instead of selling them? You own a meat shop, not a breeding farm.”
“I take good care of them like any good livestock owner,” answers the Owner. “I keep them locked in their restraints twenty-four-seven so they wouldn’t hurt themselves. They don’t have to go to the bathroom, as I flush out their orifices each day.”
