"That was all before I met you."

Or how the scene from S04E08 could continue.

“He seems like a sweet boy,” Martha whispers into his shoulder, curled leisurely into him. Washington keeps a heavy hand on hers to steady himself, breathing in the scent of her after far too long.

“Mmm,” he acquiesces, “he mothers me, Martha. Mothers.”

Or, three times the General’s Right-Hand Man stood by his side, and one time the General stood by his.

    The battle was over.

The dust had settled, canons ceased to shake the earth and Alexander thought that he could relax, at least as much as he possibly could during this Revolution. He would parade back to camp with his fellow soldiers, would bundle himself in the scratchy blanket inside of his and Washington's shared tent and begin writing the next hundreds of letters to Congress.

His father's proud smile would warm him heart more than any thin clothe ever could.

That was before the last bullet went off and Hamilton's side blooms in fire.

    Summary

There were times when her days felt as impossibilities, as dreams, all carefully numbered within her mind: Ninety-one years spent living, and forty-four of them endured as a widow, racing against history and time . . . Sixteen years lost debating over the shape the Monument should take, yet forty-nine years since its initial conception following the death of General Washington . . . Ten presidents come and gone, with each of them struggling to ensure a more perfect union than the one their forefathers had birthed in ink and blood . . . Too many compatriots to number, all laid to rest, leaving her the last of a dying age . . .

. . . and, even to her final days, one husband she was determined the world would remember, no matter what.

Or: Eliza Hamilton, and the building of a legacy. And, for others, such as the soft-spoken congressman from Illinois: how lucky they were to be alive while such a woman still walked amongst them.
