Summary
The thing is, Buck’s been getting along just fine not thinking about it. When it first happened, he’d chalked it up to a weird grief thing. A temporary bout of insanity. Eddie hadn’t seemed keen to discuss it either, and so Buck happily shoved it into a mental box labeled Never Think About This Again.
Except, not talking about it had backfired. His friendship with Eddie had turned awkward, then unbearable. Obviously, it was Buck’s fault. Buck, who never knew when to leave well enough alone. Buck, who’s too intense, too needy, and too much. Part of him is shocked it took this long for everything to implode. He and Eddie have been on a collision course since the day last year when Eddie told Buck he was leaving. Maybe since before that.
The kiss was just the moment of impact.

Summary
Eddie keeps thinking about the smudges of soot he’d seen on Buck’s face at the wedding, around his mouth. He keeps thinking about self-denial and the things that could—would—bring him joy if he just let himself have them. His jaw tenses and aches.
So, because he’s apparently insane, he says, “I could help you.”
“What do you mean?”
“With the scent thing,” Eddie says. “I mean… if you want me to.”

Summary
Sometimes you have to break things to fix them. Chris would break his relationship with Buck, but Buck's already done that.

Summary
Pepa takes a bite, holding them all in suspense as she chews. “Evancito, do you think my niece and nephew are interchangeable?”
Buck chokes. Eddie slaps him on the back, hard, until he stops coughing.
Sophia wouldn’t have known to do that. She isn’t a medical professional, and she certainly doesn’t know about Buck’s history with choking. For now, Eddie is still the Diaz who knows Buck best. The one who protects him and looks out for him.
“So,” Sophia says, drawing out the word. “I’m taking up hot yoga.”
“You’re already hot,” Buck says.
Eddie’s blood pressure is not up to this challenge.
Or: Eddie's sister comes to town. Eddie takes everyone joking about Buck finally finding a way to marry into the Diaz family so normally. So deeply normally.

Summary
Eddie’s changed back into his civilian clothes and is just finishing tightening the laces on his boots when Chimney comes into the locker room, his face uncharacteristically serious.
“Hey guys, can you all hang back a minute? I need to talk to you about something,” he says, pulling the door closed behind him.
Hen looks up from her phone, glancing around at Eddie, Ravi, and Harry. “Sure, Cap. Should we wait for Buck?”
Chim sighs and shakes his head. “It’s…it’s about Buck.”

Summary
The problem was Buck would take up the cross of Eddie’s guilt and hurt in a heartbeat if he knew–he’d shoulder the weight himself and squirrel away like he always did, determined to face it alone. Eddie couldn’t let that happen, so he tried to keep his feelings locked up at an arm’s length, to be what Buck needed in the moment. It had been easier before, around everyone else. Now, though, alone in the bedroom, Buck tight-lipped as ever, Eddie felt like a raw nerve.

Summary
Eddie’s eyes are dark, his pupils huge. His mouth drops open a little as Buck comes closer; his chest rises with deeper breaths. He slumps lower, extending an arm out towards Buck, beckoning him.
“You’ve been staring,” Eddie says. He’s not accusing. Christ he’s beautiful.
“I’ve been staring,” Buck agrees. What’s the point in lying now? He slides off the couch and onto his knees on the floor between Eddie’s spread legs.
Eddie inhales sharply, making room for Buck’s body. “I’ve been trying to give you space.”
Buck frowns. “Me?”
