Summary
Blue eyes passed over Damen. Laurent told the policewoman, “I didn’t agree to this”.
“Your uncle thinks it is necessary,” said Damen. “Please get into the car.”
Laurent met his eyes then, expression unchanged from one of cool hostility. “You’ve met him.” He missed the inflection that would have made it a question, so Damen didn’t answer.
“I understand you don’t want me here, but it is to protect you.”
“I’m capable of doing that myself.” Laurent had to lift his chin, and under different circumstances Damen might have smiled.
“You’ll forgive me if I disagree.”
“Will I? Fascinating.”
