Jure looked between them, hesitant. “I keep hearing bits and pieces about what happened with Kris,” he said. “But I never got the full story.”
Jan set the guitar down. “Not much to tell,” he said, though his tone betrayed him.
Bojan gave a tired smile. “There’s plenty to tell. We just stopped talking about it.”

    Jure waited, silent.

After a long pause, Bojan spoke again. “He wasn’t just part of the band, you know. He was also part of us. People loved his energy. His voice that slipped in under mine like it belonged there. He had this way of making the crowd — and us — believe we were unstoppable.”

Jan nodded. “Until he decided he wanted to stop. ” Bojan’s laugh was short, bitter. “Yeah. He said he needed space. That he wanted to see the world. I thought I understood. I even told him to go.” His voice faltered. “But I didn’t think he’d go without saying goodbye.”

    The room fell still.
Only the faint hum of the amplifiers filled the air. Jure looked down, uncertain. “You and him… you were close, right?”

Bojan met his eyes, and for once, didn’t dodge the question. “He said he loved me. And maybe he did. But he loved the idea of freedom more.”
