The hunter nodded. “I saw the streets before I came here. They’re desolate, decrepit, it’s nothing like it used to be.” He raised his voice only slightly. “And the docks as well, no ships are allowed to land at Sage's Island's ports!”
“That’s all His Majesty’s work.” Vil glared at the ground. “He’s taxed the districts to hell and back without a care for the common people. But then, he makes sure we can't leave because we belong to him!” His breath grew shaky as his chest heaved. "There's nothing anyone can do!"
“Vil…” Rook shook his head, reaching for his friend. "Since when has my Roi du Poison become such a defeatist?"
Vil sighed, not meeting his friend's gaze. "His Majesty has a way of beating the fight out of you."
"He truly has exhausted you, hasn't he?"
As Vil nodded, Rook's gaze grew serious. "Then I will save you from his tyranny!"
