Summary
It starts with a set of ears.
Well, okay, if Jayce is being really truthful, it starts with hex crystals.
Actually, no, it starts with Viktor. Viktor is as good of a place to start as anything.
So yes, it starts with Viktor. And the crumbling mess of his former workshop. And Jayce, standing on the ledge, seeing his whole life unspool before him where the only solution was at the bottom of a pile of rubble ten meters down. Having Viktor save him with just those few soft words did something to Jayce, rewired his brain maybe, and Jayce would do anything for Viktor.
Which is why he’s in their shared lab alone, late at night tinkering with hex crystals when he really should be sleeping. But one thing leads to another, there's an accident with the hex crystal, and suddenly Jayce has dog ears atop his head. Real ones that don't come off no matter how hard he tries. But it's fine, it's okay. Jayce can handle this. And fortunately that seems to be the only thing that's changed about him.
Right?

She shrugged. “I have a certain advantage.” She stepped close to Jayce, who met her firm gaze with eyes wide. She reached up and delicately took his chin. His body curved into Mel’s just slightly as he moaned.Viktor’s own breath came short. He had absolutely thought the tall, strapping topsider would prefer to lead the way in the bedroom. But the way he looked at her made it very clear that that wasn’t the case.
Viktor felt a flush of warmth in his pants. And realised all at once that there was nothing he wanted more than Jayce Talis on his knees, begging to be touched, frustrated and denied.
