    Summary

When Lucerys was born, his nature was regarded as a miracle. A blessing from the Gods. Aemond remembers being taken to see him in his cradle. It was crafted of the finest wood, shaped and painted to resemble a shell. There, swaddled in velvet, lay Lucerys Velaryon, the Pearl of Driftmark.

    Summary

The landlady says, "How many rooms would you like, sir?" at Lan Wangji, in a way that strongly implies that Wei Wuxian had better not be chasing after a handsome alpha cultivator trying to return him to the bosom of his family before Wei Wuxian managed to irretrievably compromise himself.

Wei Wuxian opens his mouth to say "Two, please, auntie," in an effort to save Lan Wangji's reputation, but before the words leave his mouth, Lan Wangji says,

    "One."

Both Wei Wuxian and the landlady stare at him. It's clear that the landlady is trying to figure out if this upright-looking cultivator is the one actually taking advantage of a scrawny omega with donkey shit on his boots, but Wei Wuxian isn't much less confused.

    Summary

Wei Wuxian had spent months planning, months reading and researching. He was supposed to be ready once his baby was ready to be born. He was going to slip off to some quite town and deliever it in secret, coming up with some excuse to explain it when he came back. No one was supposed to know, especially not the golden eyes he'd been avoiding for months.

But his baby took after him, and had to make his entrance into the world at the worst time.

    Summary

“You’ll need to have it removed before you are set for your next natural heat,” the healer had warned him as she’d sealed the cut with a bit of bacta, “It’s only meant to be used until you can come to terms with what has happened and then you should have the temple healers remove it.”

“Yes of course,” Obi-Wan had agreed, pulling his sleeve down over the newly wrapped spot on his arm, “As soon as I’ve come to terms with it I will have it removed.”

    Except...

    ---

Obi-Wan has lived with the chip to prevent his heats since his alpha, Qui-Gon Jinn, died in a duel against a Sith. Although he should have had it removed after one heat, he keeps it in for nearly a decade.

He keeps it in through the first scheduled heat, while he trains a nine-year-old Anakin, and even when he finally realizes he's completely in love with Anakin after the man is knighted.

He would have kept it in forever.

    But fate had other plans.

    Summary

Anakin finds him brooding on the balcony, because of course he does. No matter how many years have passed, no matter the disappointment and resentment and hurt between them, no matter how much he might like to pretend otherwise – Anakin might still know him better than any other person in the world.

There had been a time when Obi-Wan showed him all the soft, vulnerable pieces of himself, safe in the knowledge that Anakin would cradle them softly in his palms and protect them from harm. Years ago, Anakin used to proclaim he’d rather die than allow any harm to come to Obi-Wan; ardently, repeatedly, genuinely. Back then, Obi-Wan had believed him.

He knows all too well, then, that the way Anakin twists the knife nowadays is a choice. It’s a punishment he knows he deserves – he broke Anakin’s heart first, after all.
