Summary
It wasn’t like Elliot had expected bountiful feasts and full meals at the end of the world. It was just - she was just so hungry.
She stumbled down the street - she didn’t know what street, anymore: direction and place names had long since fled her mind - moving slowly, tripping over her own tired, torn up feet. She wondered distantly where she’d lost her shoes, or when. She peered into each car as she passed, desperate, hungry. They were all old and abandoned and mostly empty, the tires cracked and grown through with weeds. Some of them were stuffed with valuables. Some were empty, doors flung open wide like beseeching hands, raised and praying for deliverance. Some, more than a few, had rotted bodies still at the wheel. Their bony fingers clutched the wheels. They obviously had to have starved to death: if they’d been bit they would be wild and alive and furious.
She couldn’t help but stare at those cars the longest, with their shriveled up passengers.
Or: "It was an old truth they all clung to: zombies are dead. They don’t feel anything but hunger, they don’t think."

Summary
Sam wasn’t human. He knew this like he knew the lines etched on the back of his hand. The idea had been drilled, pounded, beaten, and tortured into him over time, until it was a core part of his thoughts and constantly in the back of his mind.
Sam Winchester? Monster.
But this time, Castiel notices Sam's declining view of his own self-worth. And this time, Castiel is tired of not being able to help.
