    Marianne always knew it was going to rain. She just loved walking in the rain. It was refreshing and soothing in a way that was unable to be replicated—a cleansing bath appointed by God above.

    Now, however, she sat in Barton Cottage staring out the windows in envy. Since her sickness, she knew she couldn’t risk any more dalliances.

    The air was thick in awaiting tension. The first spit of water began to deepen the green of the grass. She watched as the panes went from thin drops that held their dainty shape to thick lines that mocked her in their freedom. She traced each droplet in their downward descent as Margaret practiced her French.
