Summary
It’s a young man, his own age or perhaps a little younger - shorter, at least - with the reddest hair Langa has ever seen. He contrasts starkly against the bleak hues around him, and Langa is struck by the memory of seeing a photograph in color for the very first time. It’s as if the stranger’s presence bleeds into the surroundings, making everything seem warmer and less drab than before. He brushes some pine needles and dirt off his clothes - which are nice but nowhere near the dress code for the event - before he looks up, freezing in place when he spots Langa. They stare at each other, their eyes locked and breaths held in sheer surprise.
The stranger finds his bearings first and his startled expression turns almost brazen when he smiles.
“Hey there,” he says, sounding so sure of himself that Langa feels like he’s the one who just got caught doing something suspicious.
Langa, the sheltered and naive son of a Governor, falls head over heels for a charming stranger.
He's certain that their paths won't cross again, but when his friends drag him along to The Garden, a brothel catering to the aristocracy, Langa learns who he is; a Garden Flower - an escort for the rich and powerful.
