    Summary

No one spoke much about the future. Yoongi preferred it that way, preferred to extend the delusion that what they had could endure in the lazy summer days that seemed to last forever – except that they were short, far too short, and ticking down one by one. He felt like they were already breaking apart at the seams.

And soon it would just be him left.

    ~

Yoongi has always struggled to find the right words to describe the depth of his feelings for Jimin, has never dared to even try speaking them aloud, too full of doubt and self-loathing to consider that his silence might be hurting more than just himself.

Namjoon had once told him the phrase blood is thicker than water was a lie, because it used to be the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. The family we make is worth more than that we are given, that we do not have to work for. He has grieved more for the loss of his friends, though self-imposed and surely never permanent no matter what he’s done, than he feels he ever will for his father. And Yoongi can't find fault with that.

It's time to find his covenant.

tumblr prompt: Jimin in an abusive relationship

“You’d tell me, wouldn’t you?” Namjoon said seriously.

“Tell…tell you?” Jimin said, tilting his head in question.

“If something was going on,” Namjoon said, crossing his arms over his chest, pencil gripped tightly.

“Hyung, what could possibly be going on?” Jimin smiled, ignoring the distinct pounding of his heart and the slight tremor in his fingers. He didn’t have anything to hide. There wasn’t anything going on.

“My mother was always a woman who knew what to say.” Jimin begins on an exhale take of air. “Unfortunately, it’s a trait that wasn’t passed down to me.”

“Even on a good day, I struggle with the right thing to say. And in the heat of the moment, I’ll say things that I’ll regret later. Or I’ll look back on my words and wish I could have said something different.” He takes another deep breath. “There are no amount of words I can say to tell you just how amazing my mother is. No combination of words that can justly portray to you the strong, selfless, kind, bright, wonderful being that is Park Jisu.”

“So I thought I’d take a page out of one of the many books she so loves, and read you a poem from The Iliad.” He chuckles. “Because nothing screams more like mother more than Greek literature.”

“The gods envy us.” “They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed.” He turns his eyes onto the simple brown casket that holds his mother; it’s the first time he’s brought himself to look at it since he walked into the room.

“You will never be lovelier than you are now.” He tells her, just her. The rest of the room are simply lucky to able to hear the words Jimin has for his mother. “You will never be here again.” Jimin is choking on a sob now. “My heart hurts so much Eomma. But I know, that a heart that’s broke is heart that’s been loved.”

“And I know, that the day you left, heaven welcomed you back with open arms. Because I was lucky enough, to have an angel as my mother.”
